Pokemon Parade Float Characters

The Challenge:
At the time we were contracted to build these fourteen-foot high figures of the Pokemon characters Reshiram and Zekrom, only a handful of people outside the Pokemon Corporation had ever laid eyes on them. With their worldwide debut scheduled to take place during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, it was imperative to our clients that their design and likenesses be kept strictly confidential until the final unveiling.

The Solution:
Constructed over steel frames and sculpted out of lightweight urethane foam, the two figures were then coated with a durable fiberglass shell and painted. Having been designed to break down into smaller, more manageable pieces, they were then shipped across the country via semi and unloaded in New Jersey, where, under cover of darkness, they were loaded into smaller vehicles and taken to their final assembly location near Central Park. Once reattached to the specially modified gas-powered utility vehicles that would serve as their method of transportation on the parade route, Reshiram and Zekrom were ready to take their place in front of throngs of parade-goers and millions of viewers at home.

Experience Counts:
Spoiling the surprise has never been our style. From the very beginning of the company’s history, building elaborate trade show environments for the video game industry, Dillon Works has taken the protection of our customers intellectual property with absolute seriousness. We know how important it is that the unveiling of new designs and characters be done on their timeline and take all reasonable measures to maintain it. Besides, peeking just spoils the fun.
