We are currently accepting resumes for the position of Design Director.

This full time position will be directly responsible for the successful aesthetic outcome of multiple projects, working alongside a talented and diverse group of designers, fabricators, project managers and internal & external resources supporting these efforts.  The Design Director is responsible for scheduling and supervising the efforts of all Dillon Works designers and draftsmen. This position oversees and guides the translation of concepts through design development and into shop drawings that faithfully represent agreed upon scopes of work and adhere to the constraints of budget and schedule.

The Design Director’s responsibilities include participation in the Marketing and Sales functions of the company.  The ability to sketch, translate and articulate project concepts to both clients and staff is essential.  A working knowledge of Autocad is also helpful.

Responsibilities

  1. Assign projects to Designers and communicate all pertinent information and interpretation of client’s wants and needs.
  2. In conjunction with the project managers, discern and verify needed deliverables and schedule working timeline for due dates.
  3. Facilitate Design Phase meetings for all projects with Designers, PMs, and our fabrication Shop Supervisors.
  4. Organize Design hours and assignments during the Design Phase of projects.
  5. Create and update weekly Design Department schedule showing designated Designers and hours included for each project.
  6. Provide direction and help problem-solve fabrication issues while maintaining integrity of project and contracted scopes of work.
  7. Communicate with Client to interpret needs, problem solve and talk through foreseen issues, obtain approval on all Design Phases, and facilitate strong relationships.
  8. Work with Sales and Marketing to interpret client needs and create Concept sketches for prospective jobs

  • Superior communication skills, capable of articulating and coordinating critical project details to a wide range of recipients.
  • Ability to proactively interact and communicate with architects, designers, general contractors and demanding clients.
  • The flexibility to travel with little notice.

The ideal candidate should also have:

  •  An extended, successful track record of leading the design of architectural and entertainment projects from concept to completion.
  • A working knowledge of the design and fabrication processes, as well as the methods and materials common to this industry.
  • The ability to routinely and regularly schedule and reschedule, track and forecast the design department performance.
  • Proven experience in managing the groups of designers.
  • A positive, determined attitude, and be well organized and energetic.
  • The ability to juggle any number of project assignments at any given time while maintaining an overview of all project design criteria is a must.
